We are packing our party hats and horn blowers to celebrate the ms Koningsdam 1st birthday on her April Transatlantic voyage.
Last year at this time we were waiting in anticipation for the Koningsdam to be handed over from the ship yard to Holland America so we could sail on the inaugural cruise. We loved the cruise and the ship so when we received an email with a really great deal (cruise, flights and hotels), we bit! You can learn more about the April 2016 inaugural voyage here. My review of the ship can be found here.
This 13 day cruise is all about relaxing and enjoying the ship. Out of the 13 days, nine of them are at sea. There are only 3 ports of call - Ponta Delgada, Azores; Malaga, Spain and Alicante, Spain - before we disembark in Rome. We have visited all of these ports on previous voyages so there is very little planning to do.
This is the first voyage that we will have 4 star mariner status with Holland America. This means free laundry, 50% off specialty restaurants, 50% off drinks at the Exploration cafe and 50% off wine packages. The Koningsdam has 5 specialty restaurants - Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind, Canaletto, Sel de Mer and Culinary Arts Center. We will try out all the restaurants this time!
We'll have two nights in Rome before flying back home. Ever wonder what it's like to be in Rome for Easter? We'll let you know. Probably less beer than King's Day in Amsterdam.
