The train ride to Rotterdam was about 40 minutes. Rotterdam is a modern city with incredible architecture. The city was almost completely destroyed in WW2. I love the sense of humour and play that is evident in a lot of the architecture and art around Rotterdam.
The Rotterdam terminal is very nice - a string trio was playing Christmas music, really friendly people greeting us and everything was very clean. I love this part of a cruise. It's so exciting to get to the terminal, fill out the form to prove you are not bringing the noro virus on the ship, have your photo taken and walk on to the ship for the first time.
We found our stateroom and started to explore the lovely ms Rotterdam. We found replicas of the Terra Cotta Warriors. We thought this odd as China is the next trip we have planned.
I should note that at least 80% of the passengers were Dutch and the demographic was older than we were expecting for a holiday cruise. The Dutch were great to travel with. They kind of keep to themselves and don't really participate in ship activities.
Because the cruise came back to Rotterdam a day early we had more time to explore this amazing city at the end of our cruise.
